Sports Betting Strategies – Knowing Everything About The Sport May Not Be Good For You

Baseball, soccer, football, basketball, which of them do you ‘invest’ your money in? I do not mean having a stake with the team but actually placing a small amount of money into the game through sports betting. Of course, the most logical answer is to choose the sport that you are most familiar with. Definitely if you understand the ins and outs of the game, it would help you increase your chances of winning but not exactly will help you win money.

The reason is that you already know too much about the game. For example if the match involved your favorite team, don’t even think about placing bets, instead just enjoy the game. Your emotional heart will override your brain and affect your ability to analyze the match.

Baseball

In addition, if you know the game well, you tend to be over confident about yourself and in the process of selecting the right teams to wager on, you lose out some details and cost you dearly. Now, your cup is already full, any others will not be able to fill your cup. Relearn about the game and analyzing from a bookmakers perspective to help you win your bets.

If not, move to college leagues or semi-pro tournament when the teams are virtually unknown and place your bets. This allows you to understand the teams from a punter point of view rather than from a fan’s.

So, in conclusion, knowing everything about the sport may not be that advantageous for you. It is the ability to put everything in perspective when analyzing the bet that is more important.

Dancing Shrimp

17 May, 2012 (13:18) | Baseball Articles | By: Idarinqas

Sushi has been a favorite of mine since I began visiting Japan back in the 1970′s. When I first tasted it, I was somewhat surprised by the hot wasabe mustard carefully hidden between the fish and the rice cake, but as I am somewhat of an aficionado of hot and spicey food, I adapted to it quickly. For the uninitiated, sashimi is simply raw fish, but sushi consists of a small rice cake, usually the size of a pinky finger, topped with green wasabe mustard and sashimi. Sushi comes in as many varieties as there are fish in the sea, and I’ve tried just about everything from eels and fish heads to Dancing Shrimp. “Dancing Shrimp?” you might ask. Actually it’s an interesting story.

Years ago I was in Tokyo on business. On this particular occasion, my representative and I were visiting several clients around Yokohama. One day, we made our last stop at an ink manufacturing company who had been a customer of ours for a long time and we had developed a good relationship with the director of the computer department. We invited him to dinner that evening and he recommended a small sushi restaurant nearby who had some of the freshest fish around. We got there early and secured three seats right up front at the sushi bar where they prepared the food. It was a small restaurant, probably no more than twenty feet long and twelve feet deep, which is customary for a lot of restaurants over there. I remember they had the Japanese world series on the television which was situated up in a corner of the restaurant so everyone could see it. By the way, I love Japanese baseball. I try to attend at least one game every time I go over there, provided it’s in season of course. The Japanese take their baseball very seriously and although I’m partial to the Tokyo Giants, I like all of the teams.

Baseball

While we waited for the chef to prepare our sushi, the three of us downed several bottles of Sapporo beer and some sake. It had been a long day, and the libations went down nicely as we watched the game. The chef then presented us with a wide assortment of sushi which we gobbled up. I guess my customer was surprised to see a foreigner enjoy sushi as much as I did. Most Americans he knew would only try the standard tuna sushi and the tekamaki cucumber roll. He was surprised that I had no problem with the octopus, cuttlefish, and roe. He then whispered something to my rep who laughed and shook his head in agreement, then placed another order with the chef. He then turned to me with a big grin on his face and said they had a little surprise for me, something they called Dancing Shrimp.

Like you, I was puzzled by the name and didn’t know what to expect. Anyway, the chef brought out three beautiful prawns and showed them to us. I could see they were still alive by the way they were flopping around in the chef’s hands. The chef washed them off, then carefully removed the small shell off of their backs. To stop their flopping around, the chef calmed them by massaging their back with his finger. This seemed to relax them quite a bit and then he positioned them decoratively on our plates with their heads down and their tails high up in the air. At first I thought he was showing us some sort of trick before cutting up the prawns into some more sushi, but I was surprised when my friends picked up the shrimp with their chopsticks, dipped them in soy sauce, then unceremoniously popped them in their mouths. I could tell the prawns were just as surprised as I was because I could see them flopping around as they went into the mouths of my friends who quickly crunched them up and swallowed them whole.

My friends could tell their little ruse had the desired effect they had hoped for and they laughed. They then dared me to eat my prawn. I was still surprised by what I had just witnessed but I knew that I would have to eat the prawn in order to save face. I then downed the remainder of my beer before picking up my chopsticks. I figured I better get this over with as fast as possible and try to make it look like I knew what I was doing. I snatched up the prawn, dipped it in the soy sauce and popped it in my mouth. No doubt I had a surprised expression on my face. The prawn came very much to life in my mouth and I realized I better put it out of its misery as fast as possible and began to crunch it up. Much to my surprise, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The meat was actually sweet and my friends could tell I was beginning to enjoy it. I then washed it down with a sip of sake and kiddingly asked them what was for dessert. They were delighted I had enjoyed it so much, but I also noticed that some money passed from my customer to my rep. Evidently, I had been the subject of a small wager between the two.

Since then, I haven’t been able to find Dancing Shrimp in the United States, just the normal types of sushis suited to American tastes. I’m glad I tried it though. Every once and awhile you have to try something different. It’s what makes life interesting. I could have easily insisted on burgers or pizza when I’m overseas but that would limit my scope and I wouldn’t get the opportunity to truly experience the local culture which I find so fascinating. In all likelihood, I wouldn’t have been able to develop a good relation with our customers in Japan if I didn’t at least try to sample the local cuisine.

So, would I order Dancing Shrimp again? I guess it would depend on what we were drinking with dinner and the amount of the wager.

Dancing Shrimp

American Mobsters – Al "Scarface" Capone – The Man Who Ruled Chicago in the Roaring Twenties

16 May, 2012 (13:17) | Baseball Articles | By: Idarinqas

0

Most people associate Al Capone with Chicago, but in truth, Al Capone was born and bred, and got his start in the mob in the borough of Brooklyn, New York.

Alphonse Gabriel Capone was born the fourth of nine children on January 17, 1899 on Navy Street, in the section of Brooklyn now known as DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). He stood in school until the 6th grade, when in a fit of rage, he beat up one of his teachers. A resulting trip to the principals office caused Capone he get beat up himself and he left school for good.

Baseball

Capone hooked up with a street gang called “The James Street Gang,” which was an offshoot of the powerful Five Points Gang in lower Manhattan. “The James Street Gang” was run by the tough and ruthless Johnny Torrio, who became the teenage Capone’s mentor for years to come. Torrio, along with his partner Frankie Yale, hired Capone to be their chief bouncer at their bar/brothel in Brooklyn. It was there that Capone got his nickname “Scarface,” after his cheek was slashed by a hoodlum named Frank Galluccio, in a bar fight over a girl. Capone later told the press he had gotten his scar fighting for the “Lost Battalion” in France during World War I, but the truth was, Capone never served a day in the service.

By 1919, Torrio had moved to Chicago to run the rackets of Big Jim Colosimo and Capone was suspected of a few murders in Brooklyn. So to avoid the heat, Capone headed west to Chicago to aid Torrio in his takeover of the town. The first order of business was to take out Colosimo, who was a hindrance to Torrio and Capone getting into the illegal booze business. Brooklyn friend Frankie Yale took care of Colosimo, permanently.

Irish mobster Dion O’Banion, the head of Chicago’s “North Side Gang,” stood in their way, as the Torrio/Capone duo attempted to organize Chicago into separate, but equal fiefdoms, each with protection and exclusivity in their own territories. Enter again Frankie Yale and O’Banion was shot to death in his florist shop in November 1924. After Torrio was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt by O’Banion’s successor Hymie Weiss, Torrio went into retirement at the age of 43, willing all his rackets to the 26-year-old Al Capone.

Capone took Chicago by the throat, and he had over 1000 experienced gunman under his control. Even the Chicago police seemed to turn a blank eye to Capone’s murderous escapades. Capone once boasted, “I own Chicago and I own the police.” Add aldermen, mayors, legislators, governors newspapermen and congressmen to the list of people on Capone’s payroll. Capone limited his business endeavors to things that were popular with the people; booze, gambling and prostitution. Capone boasted to his adoring press, “I’m just an honest businessman who’s giving the public what they want.” Capone was so popular with the people, he was even cheered at baseball games.

Capone’s downfall started when he orchestrated the insidious “Valentine’s Day Massacre,” on February 14, 1929. While Capone was sunbathing in Miami, his shooters line up seven men against a garage wall in Chicago, and machine-gunned them to death, missing his intended target and owner of the garage, George “Bugs” Moran.

All of a sudden Capone was no longer the populist of the people. Even the jaded citizens of Chicago were aghast and the savagery of these murders, and while the government had no proof of Capone’s involvement in the “Valentine’s Day Massacre,” they plotted to put him in jail, anyway they could. Capone was hit with 11 counts of income tax evasion, and in 1931, he was tried, convicted and sentenced to 11 years in prison. In 1934, Capone was transferred to Alcatraz, a maximum security prison called “The Rock.” There the effects of syphilis, he had acquired in his brothel days in Brooklyn, took control of his mind. He was diagnosed with dementia, and when he was released in November, 1939, Capone was a broken man, given to outburst of rage, over anything, from the government, to Communists, to his old foe “Bugs” Moran. Capone spent his last years flowing in and out of lucidity, and on January, 21, 1947, he died of a heart attack at his home in Miami Beach, Florida.

I’ve Fallen Down and Can’t Get Up! Low-back Decompression Therapy

15 May, 2012 (14:39) | Baseball Articles | By: Idarinqas

0

This is the story of “A REAL MAN.” Growing up I played all the sports I could. Each season had its own sport, spring was baseball, summer was water skiing, fall there was football, winter we had hockey on the frog pond and indoor basketball. I played as rough and tough as I could. When I entered the work force, I chose the manly profession of construction and roofing. I remember one time where we were building a beautiful house on a hill overlooking a raging river. The material for the house was delivered by transport truck but the truck couldn’t reach the hilltop. So, I carried all the material, 13,500 cubic feet, up that hill to the building site. Day in and day out until I was done.

Another sport I failed to mention was boxing. Of course all these sports, injuries and repetitive work loads played heavily on my body and I started to feel the effects when I reached my thirties. I ignored the signs and symptoms of pain as they went away in a few days. As I grew older the pain became more severe and lasted longer. I remember a week where I couldn’t get out of bed and had to lay flat on my back while my wife attended to my every need. I still ignored the pain and tried to live and work through the pain. Remember I told you I am a real man!

Baseball

No one told me that the first thing to fail on my body would be the discs in between my vertebrae. They were apparently absorbing all the shocks and impacts that I was receiving. I had no clue that the nervous system starting in the brain and extending down my spine and ending in my toes would be the cause of all my pain. Apparently when a disc starts to wear out, pressure can be placed directly on the spinal cord and the nerve roots coming out between the bones in my back and reaching out to every part of my body.

My low back was the first to give out. I had a throbbing pain in my back and at times a sharp pain would fire down my leg and cause me to buckle. I had to grab the nearest piece of furniture or I would have fallen to my knees. Even then I would grit my teeth and tell my wife I was alright. Of course she knew better and would tell me so to the point of frustration. She, being the intelligent woman that she is, had been seeing a Chiropractor regularly and was maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She could shop but never drop. Meanwhile I had a hard time getting from the couch to the dining table so that she could feed me my nutritious organic meals.

Finally in frustration she told me that she had had it and that I needed to turn myself in. She said: “At least find out what the hell is going on!” For her to swear like that meant that I was in deep do-do.

I agreed to get an MRI of my low back. It turns out that I had a herniated disc as well as two bulging discs along with disc degeneration. I got that much out of the report but the rest was in a foreign language. Knowing that I had a problem, I agreed to see her Chiropractor who in simple terms explained to me that I was in fact in deep trouble and that I should have listened to my wife years ago.

He also told me that there was a possible solution if I would agree to accept care. Then he told me that I would have to come to his office 5 days a week for treatment that would last between 45 minutes and an hour. He pointed out that I wasn’t able to work any how and that my wife could drive me to his office until I got up to the point where I could drive myself.

The first thing I had to face was that I was in fact injured, duh! And that I was in so much pain that I could be considered an invalid. I on the other hand had always weathered the pain and felt that I was indestructible.

I agreed to give it a chance, but if I didn’t see any results I was going back to toughing it out until the pain went away.

The first thing the doctor did was give me the proper vitamins to help the healing process. Then I was put onto a computerized machine that decompressed my spine to allow the discs to be sucked back in between the vertebrae. Apparently the discs have no blood supply of their own and the decompression allows for blood and nutrients to flow into the injured area to help heal it. See, I was already getting smarter and it was only my first day.

On my very first treatment I felt the relief when the machine pulled gently relieving the pressure. I gave a sigh of relief. However, the pain didn’t go away it only diminished during the treatment. I agreed to come back the next day and then the next and by the time I reached my 15th treatment my pain level had gradually gone down from 10 out of 10 to about 4 or 5. I continued with the treatments until the pain was totally gone and then received a few more to make sure that the healing process was taking place.

After the treatments were completed there was a period of two – three months where I had to watch what I did and not over exert myself.

Now I am pain free! I can do the things that I want to do. I am a man again! Thanks to all those that helped this stubborn old man to realize that he too needs help.

Review Louisville Slugger MLB180 Natural Wood Baseball Bat

15 May, 2012 (13:14) | Louisville Slugger | By: Idarinqas

Louisville Slugger MLB180 Natural Wood Baseball Bat

Louisville Slugger MLB180 Natural Wood Baseball Bat Feature Guide

  • Durable ash wood bat with natural finish
  • Pro-grade ash is pound for pound the strongest timber available
  • Barrel tends to flex rather than break, creating larger sweet spot
  • Randomly selected turning model from C271, P72, C243, R161, T141, and K55
  • Available in 32-, 33-, and 34-inch lengths

Louisville Slugger MLB180 Natural Wood Baseball Bat Overview

The MLB 180 Baseball Bat from Louisville Slugger® will improve your batting skills with its durable wood design that will last after many games. Note: This bat comes in assorted autographs; autographs will vary.

Specifications for Louisville Slugger MLB180 Natural Wood Baseball Bat

Don’t make the mistake of thinking all wood bats are the same. They may look similar, but the quality of the wood is very different from one wood bat company to another. Louisville Slugger, however, sets itself apart from other bat makers with more than 120 years of bat-making experience, outstanding turning models, and access to the best-quality wood on the market. The MLB180 bat, for instance, is made of professional-grade ash, pound for pound the strongest timber available. Ash offers a flexibility that isn’t found in other timbers, including maple, resulting in a barrel that tends to flex rather than break. This gives you a larger, more forgiving sweet spot in terms of breakage. In addition, ash is lighter than maple, so players can choose from among several large-barrel sizes. It all adds up to a terrific choice for casual players who love the look and feel of a genuine wood bat, or professionals who value a high-quality bat performance.

The MLB180 also boasts a randomly selected turning model, with such possibilities as C271, P72, C243, R161, T141, and K55.

Bat Specifications

  • Wood: Ash
  • Finish: Natural
  • Length: 32, 33, or 34 inches
  • Turning model: C271, P72, C243, R161, T141, or K55

Note: The biggest factors that influence the life of a wood bat are the quality of wood and where the ball hits your bat. Until you gain experience hitting with wood bats, however, don’t be surprised if you break a lot of bats. Unlike with aluminum bats, when you hit a ball along the handle or at the end of a wood bat, you may break the bat rather than get a hit. It takes a lot of practice, but with work, you will find that you break fewer bats and become a much better hitter.

About Louisville Slugger
In many ways, the rich 120-year history of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat began in the talented hands of 17-year-old John A. “Bud” Hillerich. Bud’s father, J.F. Hillerich, owned a woodworking shop in Louisville in the 1880s when Bud began working for him. Legend has it that Bud slipped away from work one afternoon in 1884 to watch the Louisville Eclipse, the town’s major league team. After Pete Browning–the Eclipse’s star who was mired in a hitting slump–broke his bat, Bud invited him to his father’s shop to make a new one. With Browning at his side giving advice, Bud handcrafted a new bat from a long slab of wood. Browning got three hits using the bat the next day. Browning told his teammates, which began a surge of professional ballplayers visiting the Hillerich shop.

Although J.F. Hillerich had little interest in making bats, Bud persisted, eventually registering the name Louisville Slugger with the U.S. patent office in 1894. In the early 1900s, the company was one of the first to use a sports endorsement as a marketing strategy, paying Hall of Famer Honus Wagner to use his name on a bat. By 1923, Louisville Slugger was the selling more bats than any other bat maker in the country, with such famed clients as Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Lou Gehrig. In the ensuing years, the company has sold more than 100 million bats, and 60 percent of all Major League players currently use Louisville Sluggers. The company now sells far more than bats, including fielding and batting gloves, helmets, catchers’ gear, equipment bags, training aids, and accessories.
